Majene, Sulbarkita.com -- After 4 months as hostage to the armed group Abu Sayaf in the Philippines, Samsul Saguni finally arrived in his hometown in Tosalama Hamlet, Lalattedong Village, Sendana District, Majene Regency, on Sunday, January 20, 2018.
His arrival was greeted hysterically by the family and hundreds of residents waiting for him since the morning. With great emotion, the people carry and sow rice as a welcoming ritual in the style of the Mandar Tribe. Samsul was unable to hold back his tears.
When confirmed, Samsul expressed his happiness at being able to return safely. He felt surprised at the welcome made by the residents. "Previously I did not imagine it would be like this," Samsul said while at his residence.
He also told of his experience when he was a prisoner of Abu Sayaf. According to him, the Abu Sayaf group of eight to nine people took him into the forest. "We moved a few times, but I am sure I will be safe," Samsul said.
Samsul also thanked the government for helping him out of the grip of Abu Sayaf. "I am very grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Manila," he said.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Risaldi explained the handover of Samsul Saguni to the family had been carried out in Jakarta. "Our arrival here is to ensure Samsul arrived safely in his hometown," he said.
While the Regent of Majene, Fahmi Massiara hopes there will be no more similar events. "This is a lesson for all of us, I hope there are no more events like this" he said in remarks.
Reportedly, Samsul Saguni was held hostage on September 11, 2018. At that time, Samsul was looking for fish in the waters of Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia. The plot approached the ship which Samsul had commanded by boat. Finally, he was held captive and taken to the islands of Mindanao, Philippines.
