Saturday, August 25, 2018, I and dozens of journalists from various regions in West Sulawesi gathered at the Sinar Mas Hotel Hall, Polewali Mandar. We took part in the Google News Initiative Training Network training organized by the Indonesian Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) supported by Google, Internews, and AJI Kota Mandar.
There, we were given a new understanding of the use of Google tools on the internet. Likewise digital data cleaning techniques (digital hygiene), basic analysis of information, data search and search, as well as various other interesting Google tools for online investigation needs.
From the training, we realized that Google was very concerned about the accuracy of information, which of course journalists needed to deliver information to the public. So that journalists avoid the false news trap, fake news, and hoaks in cyberspace.
As we all know hoaks are no longer just threats but have endangered the integrity of the country. Because the impact can trigger cases of racial intolerance and persecution. In this country we have shown a lot of similar incidents that we should not let the more endemic.
To practice the Google Tools technique, we were guided directly by speakers such as Muhammad Iqbal (chairman of AJI Palu City), Zaenali Ishak (chairman of Aji Kendari), Geril Dwira and Indah as the official projet of AJI Indo.
Muhammad Iqbal hopes we all become the backbone of a healthy press in West Sulawesi. The categories are journalists who are not easily provoked by sharing without filtering information. So that West Sulawesi journalists take part in fighting hoax news.
"Journalism must return to the truth of journalism. "It does not become a social media that also disseminates information without prioritizing accuracy," he said.
