Jakarta, Sulbarkita.com - President Joko Widodo instructed the Indonesian Police to arrest the disseminators of hoaks or lie about the earthquake and tsunami disaster. "Anyone who can get a disaster like this and take advantage of concerns for the sake of the interests that disturb the people we immediately capture," said Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Wiranto imitating the President's instructions as reported by Republika.com last Tuesday.
In the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi, news of hoaks circulated and disturbed the people in a number of areas. No exception in West Sulawesi, the community was displaced after an earthquake and tsunami would occur.
The local government appealed to the people to calm down. They considered that misleading information was intentionally made to disturb the public, "Don't easily believe the issues that are not clear," wrote the Majene Police in its release, Monday, October 1, 2018.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Relations Division (Kadiv Humas) of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, said that the National Police were tracking hoax makers and disseminators about the occurrence of an earthquake that panicked the public. "Just waiting for the time to spread it, it must be captured," Setyo said as quoted by Detik.com.
Setyo said that the National Police were concerned about parties intentionally producing hoaxes in disaster situations. He also gave an example of the people in Majene, Sulbar who panicked because of the hoax. "Like yesterday in Majene there was a hoax. People flocked up the hill, then the school closed. This will cause chaos in the community," he said.
