Pasangkayu, Sulbarkita.com - The Alfamidi store management plan to open a branch in Pasangkayu became a polemic between the Pasangkayu Regency Government and the DPRD in the region. That is because both parties have not found a solution if Alfamidi's expansion has a bad impact on the future of small traders.

The Head of the Transportation Office, M. Yunus Alsam, said that the government must carefully review the plan because it could threaten the existence of small traders. "If it is said that goods can be deposited at Aflamidi, I don't think it can be because they send goods according to their own packaging standards," said M. Yunus.

Yunus conveyed this when the Pasangkayu Regional Government held a coordination meeting related to the management plan of Alfamidi's outlets opening a branch in Pasangkayu, in the Pasangkayu Regent's Office, Jalan Andi Pandoco, Pasangkayu Village, Pasangkayu District, Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Previously, the Alfamidi Branch Manager submitted an application to open outlets in Pasangkayu on November 18, 2019.

Yunus' statement was supported by Permadi, the Board of Management of the Pasangkayu Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association. According to him the plan to open Alfamidi outlets should be postponed before there is a study related to the impact on small traders. "I agree that this needs a study. We have to save the small traders, "said Parmadi.

Nevertheless, Chairman of Commission II of the Pasangkayu DPRD, Muslihat Kamaluddin considered that the Pasangkayu government must not turn a blind eye to the arrival of investors who want to open businesses in Pasangkayu. He even considered that the arrival of Alfamidi could open employment in Pasangkayu. "Alfamidi's presence will have an impact on job vacancies and local employers can also leave their goods there for sale," he said.

Nevertheless, Muslihat did not dismiss the negative impact of eroding the income of small traders. But he considered that this could be overcome by building a commitment between the government and Alfamidi. "For example the management of Alfamidi is obliged to accommodate the processed products of the local people which are packaged according to their standards, then the staff employed must be local residents," he said.

LPM Pasangkayu Makes Petition Reject Alfamidi

Meanwhile, the Pasangkayu Regency Student Institute (LPM PASANGKAYU) made a petition on Change.org regarding the rejection of the planned presence of Alfamidi in Pasangkayu City. According to their release, the existence of the franchise could potentially kill the small people's economy. "The velocity of the money will not be in Pasangkayu City, but the business profits will be brought by the capital owners," they wrote on Change.org.

They hope that the Pasangkayu Regional Government protects the interests of local traders. One of them is by fostering and empowering MSME actors who in fact belong to the people, "What must be remembered if rejecting Alfamidi, does not mean rejecting progress, but rejecting the monopoly which is the hallmark of the national retail corporation," LPM wrote. As of Wednesday afternoon 15 January 2020, only 14 people had signed the petition.
