Majene, Sulbarkita.com - The Village Community Partners Youth Foundation (YPMMD) West Sulawesi carried out 20 thousand mangrove or mangrove nurseries for the community. The mangroves will be planted on a number of beaches in West Sulawesi, one of which is on the coast of Baluno, Binanga Village, Sendana District, Majene, which is now known as a tourist attraction for the Mangrove Learning Center (MLC).
"For the planting of mangrove seedlings along Baluno beach, there are 20 trees which will be held for 3 months from October to December," said Aziil Anwar, founder of YPMMD when he was met at the MLC headquarters in Baluno on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
The 20 thousand mangrove nurseries are the result of collaboration between YPMMD and the non-profit organization Biodiversity Indonesia (KEHATI) and the Lariang-Mamasa Watershed Management Center (BPDAS). The goal is that the coast of West Sulawesi does not experience abrasion. So that the marine biota which is one of the people's livelihoods can reproduce quite well.
Aziil Anwar added that the cooperation also includes the construction of a KEHATI Mangrove park and the construction of a KEHATI nature school. The aim of the project is to build a natural school that elementary and junior high school students attend.
"There will be 3 classes. Each class contains 30 students. For elementary schools the equivalent is from grade 4 to grade 6. Then for junior high schools from grade 1 to grade 2," he said.
Baluno Magic Becomes a Mangrove Forest
Baluno Beach has long been one of the tourist destinations in West Sulawesi. Unfortunately, this beach was not maintained before. Abrasion due to sea water erosion caused the white sand on the beach to experience damage. In addition, the mangrove trees in the area were deforested and died as a result of being cut down and their leaves used as animal feed.
Aziil Anwar, 62 years old, is the person who saved the condition of the beach. Armed with knowledge from a training in mangrove planting in Sinjai, South Sulawesi about 30 years ago, the retired Forestry Extension Officer then tried to change the condition of Baluno Beach. "At that time I was eating at a Baluno coastal shop, I looked around the coast which is suitable for mangroves," he said.
The man who was born in Ternate, North Maluku then took the time to start caring for and adding to the mangroves around Baluno. He also develops knowledge and financial support through collaboration with the government and a number of non-profit organizations such as KEHATI.
The results are currently being reaped by Aziil. The mangroves on Baluno beach now reach an area of up to 76 hectares. Baluno tourism objects are increasingly attracting and growing the economy of the people around Baluno.
