Majene, Sulbarkita.com -- 19-year-old Cece Marwati, readily raised a box of used mineral water to every driver who crossed Jalan Gatot Subroto, the Tugu Perjuangan Roundabout, Majene City on Friday afternoon, November 22, 2019.
On the cardboard, the Unsulbar campus is drawn in the Padha-Padhang neighborhood, East Tande Village, East Banggae District, Majene.
The campus has long been in the spotlight because of its stalled construction. "We deliberately stuck to the picture of the campus which was in poor condition to collect 1 million coins for Unsulbar," said the student of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Unsulbar Political Science.
The Unsulbar campus in the Padha-Padhang neighborhood was built in 2016, three years after the university was designated as a State University (PTN). However, the construction of the campus, which was supported by funds from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of Rp 3.1 billion, was actually stalled. As a result, most lecture rooms cannot be used until now.
Unsulbar Chancellor Akhsan Djalaluddin said that this year it only received Rp 70 billion in reconstruction funds from the central government. But until this November the clarity of the budget and the continuation of building construction have not yet been established.
Cece claimed to raise funds with a number of colleagues because he was called to see the condition of the Unsulbar campus. This third semester student has very difficult learning with the campus conditions. "Classes don't have fentilation and don't have fans or air conditioners," he said, "Sometimes we feel crowded when studying."
Cece also considered that Unsulbar had not optimally encouraged the government to finance its campus. "The campus always expects us to be able to compete with other universities but does not facilitate a decent room," he complained.
Hasbi, 22 years old, Cece's colleague at the Unsulbar Faculty of Political Science, hopes that Unsulbar will immediately work on building construction and providing good lecture facilities. "The main thing to repair is the building in Padha-Padhang," he said.
The 9th semester student hopes that the fundraising will also open the eyes of the government to immediately build the Unsulbar campus. The funds collected by Hasbi and his colleagues will be submitted to the Unsulbar rectorate to increase development costs.
Unfortunately, Hasbi considered that his solidarity action was responded negatively by some people. "Some say they can tarnish the image of the Unsulbar campus but there are also those who support it," Hasbi said.
The funds that have been collected up to Friday 22 November have reached Rp 1,923,600. Both Hasbi and Cece promised to continue taking to the streets if the campus did not immediately respond to their unrest.
It's uncomfortable because I'm studying at High School
Meanwhile, Unsulbar students who were forced to study at Majene 3 High School vent about the conditions. Quoted from the character website: www.sununsulbar.com, students complain because they have to take turns with high school students to study.
"We are waiting for students to come home to get a room," said Sukra, a student of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Department of Mathematics Education on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. "If the lecturers are not on time, we sometimes go home after the evening prayer."
Yunita, an English Education Department student often feels uncomfortable when high school students question the status of Unsulbar. "It's sad, a state campus but why are you still hitching a ride? Where is the development money?"
