Mamuju, Sulbarkita.com -- The Governor of West Sulawesi, Suhardi Duka met with the President Director of Super Air Jet (Lion Group), Ari Azhari, at the Lion Tower Jakarta, Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The meeting aimed to ask the Batik Air airline, which is under the auspices of the Lion Group, to reopen the Mamuju-Makassar route which was officially closed since June 2025.
"This is about access and sustainability. We are trying so that Batik Air can fly to Mamuju again. We want the public to be calm and have certainty," said Suhardi Duka, who is familiarly called SDK, in his press release.
SDK promised to provide support for the smooth running of Batik Air flights which will fly for the first time on December 8, 2023. "We will encourage the policy of using aircraft by ASN and vertical agency employees on official trips, in order to maintain occupancy and continuity of flights," he said. "The West Sulawesi Provincial Government and the South Sulawesi Provincial Government will create a scheme to support the sustainability of Batik Air's commercial flight operations," he added.
Ari Azhari appreciated the seriousness of the West Sulawesi Government in building strategic cooperation across regions. "We really welcome the Governor's initiative and commitment. This is a real example of regional leadership that is actively seeking concrete solutions," he said.
In the meeting, SDK was accompanied by Assistant II for Development Junda Maulana, Head of the West Sulawesi Transportation Agency Maddarezki Salatin, Expert Staff to the Governor for Inter-Institutional Cooperation Hajrul Malik, and Head of Tampa Padang Mamuju Airport.

Head of the Transportation Agency, Maddareski Salatin stated the possibility of cancellation of the plan to provide subsidies for the Wings Air airline. He said this after accompanying the Governor of West Sulawesi, Suhardi Duka, during a meeting with the Lion Air Group.
"If Batik Air does (reopen the Mamuju-Makassar route), Wings Air will temporarily cancel," said Maddareski to Sulbarkita.com via WhatsApp short message, Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Previously, Maddareski conveyed the plan of the West Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sulbar) to provide subsidies to the Wings Air airline. The plan was a response to the termination of Batik Air flights on the Mamuju-Makassar route. However, the West Sulawesi Provincial Government is trying to reopen Batik Air flights at Tampa Padang Airport. "That's right, the Governor is temporarily lobbying for Makassar Mamuju flights via Batik Air," said Maddareski.
